Felix Skowronek plays these sonatas on a wooden flute. Each sonata is played with a head-joint made of different woods, These woods are 1. Orange Rosewood; 2. Mexican Rosewood; 3. African Blackwood (Grenadilla); 4. Brazilian Redwood; 5 Black Ironbox; and 6. Gidgee.

The first 4 of these were made by the Flutemaker's Guild, London; the last 2, by Skowronek. The first 3 sonatas used an Italian styled harpsichord, while the last 3 used a Flemish styled instrument. Realizations of the figured bass were done by Martha Goldstein.
